Meme or Dream? "Izzet All of My Colorless Cards?!?" (Standard)
A few months ago, Wizards started publishing decklists from Magic Arena. To qualify for publication, a deck needs to win at least six matches in a row at platinum rank or better. This sounds simple on its face, but some incredibly janky lists end up being published every time lists are published. This has led to speculation that a bug in the system allows decks that didn't actually win six matches in a row to be published or, for the most tin-foil-hatted crowd, the idea that Wizards just publishes whatever it wants, to make the metagame look more diverse than it really is.
This week, we return to what is quickly becoming a classic Meme or Dream? archetype: a sideboardless deck! I'm honestly not sure what to call the deck we're playing today. It looks like someone started to build a colorless Forsaken Monument deck, realized halfway through that they only own one copy of some of the better colorless cards in Standard like Stonecoil Serpent and Mazemind Tome, moved on to adding less-good colorless cards like Locthwain Gargoyle, ran out of bad colorless cards too, and finally just threw some random blue and red cards in to finish the deck. (Well, to finish the main deck. After such a convoluted deck-building process, maybe it isn't a surprise that the sideboard was forgotten.) The end result is a deck with some colorless ramp synergies, some random Izzet cards, and the artifact Arboreal Grazer Locthwain Gargoyle for good measure! Is colorless Izzet stuff a meme or a dream? Let's find out!
