Another week, another big spike from a Big Score card. This time it was Hostile Investigator with the four-drop shooting up 188% to nearly $18. While the card has found a home in Standard in some midrange builds, the bigger deal is that it's seeing Pioneer play in Waste Not and even Rakdos Midrange thanks to its ability to grind out value by 3-for-1'ing the opponent with its enters the battlefield trigger. At this point it's seeming like Big Score cards have been undervalued, perhaps because players didn't really consider how scarce they really are. I'd be tempted to pick up copies of the ones that are still cheap just in case, especially one with unique effects like Worldwalker Helm and Esoteric Duplicator.
Meanwhile in Pioneer Quakebringer is on the rise, increasing 45% this week to $5.50. While the foretell five-drop has a reasonable body, its real power is shutting down the opponent's lifegain, making it a great sideboard option against Amalia Combo in specific. As a one-print mythic Quakebringer could continue to slowly grow, especially if it keeps seeing play.
Finally, last week we talked about the Dandan format and how the Fish itself jumped in price after a Tolarian Community College video featuring the format. This week some of the secondary parts of the Dandan deck jumped, including Magical Hack. A traditional Dandan deck plays four copies of Magical Hack, which is driving the gains lead by the 5th Edition version spiking from $1.50 to almost $10. The cheapest version currently is 4th Edition at around $5, which is still a meaningful increase from being around $1 a bit ago. I would expect prices to drop once the hype from the video dies down, so if you're thinking of taking the plunge on the format you'll likely save a bit by waiting to build the deck.
