This Week in Legacy: Buffalo Chicken Deep Win-A-Mox Weekend 2025
Howdy folks! It's time yet again for another edition of This Week in Legacy! I'm your host, Joe Dyer, and this week we're going to be taking a look at the long weekend events held by our friends over at Buffalo Chicken Dip Legacy last weekend. In addition to that we've got a bunch of Challenges to look at from last week, including a Showcase Challenge.
Without further ado, let's dive right in!
Buffalo Chicken Dip Legacy Open 4
Our good friends over at Buffalo Chicken Dip Legacy had a pretty big weekend this past weekend! They held two separate events on Saturday and Sunday at The Warp Gate in Columbus, OH. The overall weekend was referred to as the Win-A-Mox Weekend, as both events over the weekend had a Mox of some kind as the first prize. The first of these major events was the BCDL Open 4, which had a Mox Jet as its First Place prize (among other prizes of course).
Robert Wilson of Buffalo Chicken Dip Legacy
I want to thank Robert Wilson of BCDL for not only providing a bunch of pictures of everything, but also for continually pushing these great events. BCDL events are 100% proxy friendly and help grow the community at large to the point where these Open weekends are bringing in a lot of people from outside the area. I couldn't attend these events unfortunately due to pre-existing stuff (I was in Indiana for the Critical Role Live show in Fishers for Gencon weekend) but I am thrilled to continue to see these events get the love they deserve.
This is a great venue, and it's loads of fun at these events. The Open event had 104 players in attendance slinging some Legacy spells and having a great time. In addition, this event was also helping to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis research, which in turn raised a little over $2100 for this cause. Raffle prizes for this were things like a Bayou, a Lion's Eye Diamond, and oh heck a sweet set of Buffalo Chicken Dip 3D printed coasters that some guy named volrathxp (oh wait, that's me) designed and donated to Rob for the event.
You can find all the decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.
Both Cephalid Breakfast and Dimir Reanimator were tied for most played deck of the event, but Dimir's win rate was 58.33% non-mirror with this kind of representation. Mystic Forge and Omni-Tell also both did very well here.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
Deck Name | Placing | Player Name |
---|---|---|
Dimir Reanimator | 1st | Gabriel Balannik |
Cephalid Breakfast | 2nd | Wyatt Gibson |
Dimir Reanimator | 3rd | Michael Reed |
Omni-Tell | 4th | Andy Fent |
Lands | 5th | Cole Gabel |
Mystic Forge Combo | 6th | Gabriel Ebady |
Mystic Forge Combo | 7th | Jim Monolith |
Izzet Tempo | 8th | Jonathan Johnson |
Honestly this is a pretty solid Top 8. At the end of the event it was Gabriel Balannik on Dimir Reanimator that won and claimed the coveted Mox Jet prize.
This is obviously a very powerful deck and I think a really strong choice if you wanted to just win this event. There's a lot of hype over Tezzeret (and we'll speak to that here) but Dimir is the best deck for a lot of reasons.
In Second Place it was Wyatt Gibson on Cephalid Breakfast.
This is also a fairly strong deck currently, and people are starting to realize that it's still very good. Nadu in general is strong here, and gives this deck a lot of backup plans.
This was also the first major release weekend for Edge of Eternities and a great event to showcase the power of Tezzeret, Cruel Captain.
Tezzeret being a powerful card in a deck that is all about untapping artifacts and also being able to tutor up cards it needs to continue to do so does not surprise me at all. Getting this guy on board is easy enough with stuff like Grim Monolith and he even untaps the Monolith you use to pay for him in order to get more mana out of it. It is incredibly sticky due to how much loyalty it generates playing artifacts to the board. I fully expect to continue to see this card in these shells.
Buffalo Chicken Dip Legacy Win A Mox Diamond 8/3/2025
The second weekend event ran by the BCDL crew was the Win a Mox Diamond event. This was not an Open event, and is typically supposed to have a smaller cap of competitors, but the event cap was raised and instead this event had 90 players in it. Solid turnout!
You can find all the decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.
Cephalid Breakfast was the most played deck here, and its win rate was quite good, but so was Dimir Reanimator's win rate. Nadu Midrange also looked great here.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
Deck Name | Placing | Player Name |
---|---|---|
Dimir Reanimator | 1st | Ben Hewitt |
Mystic Forge Combo | 2nd | Romario Vidal |
Nadu Midrange Combo | 3rd | Patrick Green |
Cradle Control | 4th | Clair Bigelow |
Nadu Midrange Combo | 5th | Brady Munroe |
Cephalid Breakfast | 6th | Brandon Carpenter |
Dimir Tempo | 7th | Brian Coval |
Omni-Tell | 8th | Keegan Litalien |
This is a fairly combo heavy Top 8, with the winner being Ben Hewitt on Dimir Reanimator.
Kaito is kind of a cool inclusion into this list. Being able to surveil something to the graveyard with a Planeswalker seems powerful here.
In Second Place we had Romario on Mystic Forge Combo.
Again, Tezzeret is an incredibly powerful card and I have to imagine its going to really push on this deck's construction even further. The worry there is that it pushes the deck too far and then you have to worry about a lot of graveyard hate and a lot of artifact hate, which can push on sideboard space a lot.
Legacy Challenge 32 7/30/2025
The first regular Challenge of the week was the Wednesday event. This event had 46 players in it thanks to the MTGO website.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.
Dimir Reanimator was the most popular deck here, and its win rate was pretty close to the 50% line. The big outlier here was Nadu Midrange doing really well, as did Izzet Tempo, but each of those only had two copies total in the event. Let's take a look at the Top 8.
Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
---|---|---|
Nadu Midrange Combo | 1st | pirol94 |
Beanstalk Control (Non-Yorion) | 2nd | Viatt |
Mystic Forge Combo | 3rd | markdm |
Dimir Reanimator | 4th | Munchlax446 |
Izzet Tempo | 5th | i_b_TRUE |
Mystic Forge Combo | 6th | musasabi |
Lands | 7th | Thebigempty92 |
Oops! All Spells | 8th | matttothec |
Not a super terrible Top 8. At the end of the event it was Nadu that won.
People might be mad that Nadu exists still, but honestly nearly everything about the card and the shells it fits into has shown that it is not actually insane or breaking the format in half, and that it's power level is pretty well in line with current Legacy standards. I like it, I think it's a pretty fun deck and very interesting.
In Second Place we had the Beans.
Beans has been on a bit of the down low for a bit. Reanimator is a rough top deck to contend with. I do like having effects like Sheoldred's Edict and main deck Nihil Spellbomb though.
Legacy Challenge 32 8/1/2025
The second regular Challenge of the week was the Friday event. This event had 40 players in it thanks to the MTGO website.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.
Both Reanimator and Mystic Forge shared the spotlight here, with both having positive win rates. Red Stompy also did very well here.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
---|---|---|
Red Stompy | 1st | SiL3nTGoaT |
Colorless Painter | 2nd | XanaZero |
Cephalid Breakfast | 3rd | zhinonono |
Dimir Reanimator | 4th | RyanWu |
8Cast | 5th | ErlundStormir |
Mystic Forge Combo | 6th | HoldTheElle |
Mystic Forge Combo | 7th | splev |
Oops! All Spells | 8th | silencsong |
Fair bit of Mystic Forge and stuff. At the end of the event it was Red Stompy that won.
Oh heck this is kind of neat. Building a Karn shell again with Red Stompy is kind of fun. Does allow for some flexibility in sideboard with the wish board stuff. Also, one of Chaos Defiler in the sideboard is pretty hot.
In Second Place we had Painter.
Tezzeret, Cruel Captain seems tailor made for this kind of strategy. Being able to locate your Grindstone but also being able to untap Grim Monolith is pretty gross. The card is exceptionally strong.
Legacy Challenge 32 8/2/2025
The third regular Challenge of the week was the Saturday event. This event had 57 players in it thanks to the MTGO website.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.
Dimir Reanimator was the most popular deck of the event, and it s win rate was super good (64.29% non-mirror). Dimir Tempo also did super well, as did Mystic Forge.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
---|---|---|
Dimir Tempo | 1st | pepeteam |
Mono Green Cloudpost | 2nd | TrueFuturism |
Dimir Tempo | 3rd | kirdiekirdie |
Dimir Reanimator | 4th | derJurist |
Dimir Reanimator | 5th | Ryuho090 |
Dimir Reanimator | 6th | _epinephrine |
Mystic Forge Combo | 7th | ecobaronen |
Oops! All Spells | 8th | TheGrimLavamancer |
Lots of Dimir Reanimator, but the event was won by Dimir Tempo.
Pretty straightforward list here. Not much to really dig into other than the fact that we're back to the point where Tempo decks are main decking graveyard hate.
In Second Place we had Mono Green Cloudpost.
Honestly this is kind of a cool list. Again, a ton of main deck graveyard hate which is wild. THREE COPIES of Soul-Guide Lantern?! Insane.
Legacy Challenge 32 8/3/2025
The final regular Challenge of the week was the Sunday event. This event had 41 players in it thanks to the MTGO website.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.
Dimir Reanimator was again the most popular deck, and its win rate was even higher (77.50% non-mirror). Nadu seemed to do well here as well.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
---|---|---|
Dimir Reanimator | 1st | Ailien02 |
Dimir Reanimator | 2nd | Capriccioso |
Dimir Reanimator | 3rd | 2plus2isfive |
Beanstalk Control (Non-Yorion) | 4th | Rexplosion |
Dimir Reanimator | 5th | Munchlax446 |
Nadu Midrange Combo | 6th | NathanOfTheGiltLeaf |
Cephalid Breakfast | 7th | Sergio702 |
Dimir Reanimator | 8th | kentaro_hokori |
5/8 of the Top 8 was Dimir Reanimator and it made up 3/4 of the Top 4, with the finals being a pair of Reanimator decks.
Not a huge amount of differences between these two besides some flex spots. Fairly stock for the most part.
Legacy Showcase Challenge 8/3/2025
The final final event of the weekend was the Sunday Showcase Challenge. These events are Premier Play events, requiring Qualification Points to enter. The Top 8 of the event gets an invite to the Showcase Qualifier at the end of the season. There was a stunning 345 players in this event this weekend, which is great to see.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.
Dimir Reanimator was the most played deck by almost half of the deck below it, and its win rate was exceptionally good, sitting at around a 56.39% non-mirror win rate. Dimir Tempo seemed to do well here too, as did Eldrazi.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
---|---|---|
Eldrazi | 1st | mei0024 |
Dimir Reanimator | 2nd | Alpha_Omega |
Sneak and Show | 3rd | sandydogmtg |
Dimir Reanimator | 4th | Lord_Beerus |
Dimir Reanimator | 5th | HouseOfManaMTG |
Izzet Tempo | 6th | piao |
Red Stompy | 7th | valentinaaaa |
Dimir Reanimator | 8th | roter_Erzengel |
Quite a bit of Dimir Reanimator in the Top 8, but the winner of the event was Eldrazi.
Sire of Seven Deaths is such a sweet card. Would make for a nice metal album title too. This list is incredibly aggressive and is definitely seeking to get its opponent off the board quickly.
In Second Place we did have Dimir Reanimator.
There isn't a ton here that isn't what we've already seen before. The decks are now on two copies of Undercity Sewers which does make a lot of sense given how good surveil lands are in general.
