Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Magic finance, the biggest news is that Roaming Throne (borderless) is now a $70 card. After sitting around $35 a couple of months ago—driven mostly by heavy Commander play—the card has become a staple in Standard Elementals, causing its price to double over the past few weeks. Seeing a $70 card in Standard isn’t shocking at this point, but what does make Roaming Throne (borderless) unique is that it’s a rare rather than a mythic. Traditionally, super-expensive Standard cards have been mythics, but in this new world of three-year Standard—where cards that are mostly out of print remain legal—I wouldn’t be surprised to see this happen more often. While Roaming Throne (borderless) is a great card in Tribal decks and works well in many Commander decks, I’d still look to sell now while prices are high, as it seems extremely reprintable.
Speaking of Standard, a number of cards that broke out at Pro Tour Lorwyn Eclipsed last weekend spiked this week, including Harvester of Misery and Insatiable Avarice from Dimir Excruciator, Sunderflock and Deceit from Elementals, and Superior Spider-Man from Sultai Reanimator. Despite a Magic world that’s increasingly focused on Commander, it’s pretty clear that Standard still has the power to move the market.
Of course, Commander is still causing price movement as well, with OG Brigid Brigid, Hero of Kinsbaile jumping nearly 100% to $11 this week. While she’s no longer the default Kithkin Commander thanks to new Lorwyn Eclipsed legends, if you’re building Kithkin, Brigid, Hero of Kinsbaile is still more than worth including in the 99. And while Brigid, Clachan's Heart isn’t the most popular new Lorwyn Eclipsed Commander, it’s popular enough to push up the price of the original Brigid regardless.
