Commander Clash S3 Episode 19: Anything Goes

Hello and welcome to Commander Clash, a video series where several MTGGoldfish contributors battle in a four player Commander game for fun and bragging rights. There was some miscommunication leading up to this recording and unfortunately Jennifer couldn't join us. Taking her spot at the last minute and saving the day, however, is Richard, and he's bringing along his signature jank brews! Since this was an impromptu recording, we decided to do another Anything Goes game, where each of us bring whatever deck we feel like playing. Here's what we've got:

We've all gone back to our favorite archetypes: Tom on Aggro, Seth on Durdle, Richard on Tribal Jank, and me on... well, you'll see! But first, a quick reminder: if you like Commander Clash and other video content here on MTGGoldfish, make sure to subscribe to the MTGGoldfish Youtube Channel to keep up with the latest and greatest.

Post-Game Thoughts

My deck is the most ambitious, convoluted, and jankiest pile of cards I've ever brought to a Commander Clash. Since it did absolutely nothing this game (my draws were terrible) and it only works if it's a surprise, I decided to keep it under wraps, to the point of hiding my deck list and even using Seth's backup recording. I need to give it one more shot! If I can pull it off, it will top any other janky achievement I've previously done!

Seth's Panharmonicon.dec is sweet. I love the sheer number of Blink variations out there; there's the more popular variants with Brago, King Eternal, Roon of the Hidden Realm, Ephara, God of the Polis, but you can make a sweet Blink deck in any colors with tons of twists on what creatures/subthemes you run, as creatures with ETB triggers are very popular in MtG and each set brings more of them to play with. Seth showed us a 4C version and some of the newer options, including a very strong showing of what The Scarab God can do.

Tom's deck was a textbook example of how to correctly build an Aggro deck in Commander: he was able to keep up pressure from start to finish and bounced back effortlessly from board wipes thanks to his solid sources of card advantage and scaling threats; even little things like adding Gavony Township to his deck works great, providing mana early but then helps push out lethal damage later on, especially with his double strike creatures. Treacherous Terrain was a great inclusion too, acting as mana fixing / land drop early but then later on turning into a finisher in its own right. If your Aggro deck struggles to keep up pressure or runs out of gas after a couple board wipes, I'd recommend looking over Tom's list for ideas.

Finally, Richard did what he does best! I don't know how he does it every time. Sure, this game was a little spoooky, but anyone looking over his deck list would see how utter jank it really is. But he makes it work every time!

Next Week: Random Commander!

We're going to let Lady Luck decide what we build next week! We head over to the Gatherer, click the "Random Card" generator at the bottom, and the first card we get is the card we build a deck around! Who's gonna get lucky?
