Commander Clash S7 E10: Anything Goes | Gargos vs. Horde of Notions vs. Mogis vs. Yidris
Hey friends, welcome back to Commander Clash! This week we're keeping things nice and simple with Anything Goes, where we forego the usual episode themes and just play whatever deck we want! Here's what we're bringing:
- Andrew couldn't decide on just a single deck to play, so instead he'll be playing all his opponents' decks with a Play Your Stuff list championed by Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder
- Crim has fully embraced his Archenemy status this season, inviting the table to try and stop the pain train led by Mogis, God of Slaughter
- Seth can't miss an opportunity to play a Panharmonicon list, this time revisiting the classic Elemental Tribal commander, Horde of Notions
- Tomer puts his money where is mouth is, pitting one of his $25 budget brews against a real table, using Gargos, Vicious Watcher
Strangely enough, everyone seems to have picked aggressive decks for this episode! Let's see how quick the games are! But first, a quick reminder: if you like Commander Clash and other video content here on MTGGoldfish, make sure to subscribe to the MTGGoldfish Youtube Channel to keep up with the latest and greatest.

Post-Game Thoughts
I was a little nervous picking one of my $25 brews for this episode. I'm confident that my deck is good -- I've even been playing the paper version at my LGS -- but anything can happen on an episode of Commander Clash, and there's always a chance of any deck falling flat in a tiny sample size of 1-2 games. My openers both games were terrible, especially game 2. But luckily everything turned out okay!
I do think Gargos, Vicious Watcher is the real deal. I know most people are interested in the Hydra Tribal aspect of the deck, loading up with all the Hydras and adding a +1/+1 Counter theme, but I think focusing on his triggered ability is much more powerful, and just adding the best of the best Hydras as support cards. Being able to consistently and repeatedly kill off your opponents' creatures in a super efficient way is just so darn powerful. It shuts off most decks entirely and forces them to answer Gargos immediately, which is a tough challenge when the deck is loaded with cheap ways to protect him.
That said, Gargos isn't invincible. He's a 6cmc creature with no inherent protection from removal. If your opponents manage to kill him once or twice you'll be severely set back. Countermagic is also very effective against him, at least at the lower budget range since most of Green's best anti-countermagic cards are expensive or too niche for my liking. I do love the fact that the $50 list can afford both Veil of Summer and Autumn's Veil though!

Next Week: Kenrith Week!
Kenrith, the Returned King is a super open-ended 5C commander, so what better way to showcase his versatility than doing a Kenrith week? Each of us will build our own version of Kenrith, the Returned King! We've done this before with other open-ended commanders like Phelddagrif and it was super fun, so I can't wait to see what everyone brings next week! What's your favorite Kenrith brew? Let me know in the comments section!
