Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Magic finance is mostly about some super old cards. Plaguebearer, a card that has shown up a few times on Commander Clash and, despite looking a bit expensive, tends to overperform, gained nearly 200% to $13 this week. The reason for the jump seems to be Premodern, where some builds of Survival of the Fittest play the two-drop as repeatable removal that can be tutored up when the time is right. Thankfully, it's not on the Reserved List, so a reprint is possible eventually, although the fact that we've made it nearly 30 years without a single Plaguebearer reprint suggests it might not happen anytime soon.
Meanwhile, the Stronghold printing of Grave Pact (borderless) doubled up to $50 this week. Perhaps in part due to the popularity of Premodern, we've seen the original printings of some iconic old cards shoot up in price. Even though Grave Pact (borderless) doesn't really see Premodern play, it seems that players are still valuing the original printing. If you need a copy, you can still snag one of the many reprints for around $30.
Finally, in the realm of more recent cards, the TMNT Commander rare Endless Foot Assault doubled up to $4 this week. While the Turtles flavor of the card has mostly kept the enchantment in Ninja Turtles-themed Commander decks so far, I think Endless Foot Assault is actually better than that and worth considering in Aristocrats-style decks thanks to the number of bodies it can make for free each turn, and also in some aggro decks, especially those built around attack triggers like Isshin, Two Heavens as One. When it's all said and done, I wouldn't be surprised to see Endless Foot Assault considered one of the best Commander cards from the set, which, combined with the awkwardness of reprinting the card, could make it a long-term gainer if it catches on.
