Single Scoop: Simic Flash (Standard, Magic Arena)

Are you a fan of permission spells and only doing things on your opponent's turn? Well, here's Simic Flash!

Gameplan

Our game plan is quite the infamous one. We do everything on our opponent's turn and try to use our counterspells for key threats as we don't have tons of ways to refill our hand outside of Spectral Sailor drawing us cards. The deck is loaded up with countermagic for every situation and sweet flash threats.

Brineborn Cutthroat is one of the payoffs for us to cast things on our opponent's turn as it grows our cutthroat! This card gets decently sized quick. This is the card I usually try to use to draw removal from the opponent's hand as it is a respectable threat and clears the way for our other payoff card....

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

The other payoff is Nightpack Ambusher. This card is absurdly powerful in this deck as we get to grow our army. We often try to deploy this card when they've exhausted their removal or at a point in the late game where we can protect it. It's one of our few ways to actually beat a Shifting Ceratops as it can block it in an emergency situation or make enough wolves to eventually kill off the dinosaur.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

Frilled Mystic fits in perfectly in this deck and it feels great to finally find a home for this deck as other midrange decks tried to play this but the issue was the fact that you needed to play threats and tap out which made it difficult to leave up GGUU mana. Now, this is a sweet catch-all counterspell that can also be a threat.

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

After playing the deck, I'm still not really sure how good Mu Yanling, Sky Dancer is. I never really got to use the card but I can see this card being sweet as it can remove some blockers in our way that can fly while also giving us a threat. In a world where cards like Teferi, Time Raveler exist it does feel bad to just get the token bounced but I don't think that's enough to cut the Sky Dancer yet.

Conclusion

The deck was definitely powerful as the format is filled with very clunky midrange cards so being able to just counter the spell and getting an opponent to waste their entire turn, feels great. Best of one is an entirely different beast and I think maybe we could try Quench in the MD over Spell Pierce. I like the that pierce is one mana but Quench hits everything which seems relevant in a format that is all over the place. It also helps with mirror matches which you should expect to run into!

Thanks for watching.
