Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
It's planeswalker week here in finance land. After Mark Rosewater and an article on the Wizards website confirmed that all 36 planeswalkers from the War of the Spark trailer are in the set, anything that works with (or fights against) planeswalkers in Standard saw a jump in price. More cheap legends means Mox Amber (up 30% to $19) might have a chance in Standard, while The Immortal Sun (up 20% to $20) gives decks a way to fight the planeswalker onslaught. Even Bedevil saw a 12% increase to $3.64. Expect more movement as we head through spoiler season which kicks off at the end of the month at PAX East.
Meanwhile, in the world of Commander, The Chain Veil increased by 38% to $23.47. Not only does the artifact work well in planeswalker-heavy decks, but it also has some combo potential if it can be untapped repeatedly with something like Teferi, Temporal Archmage or Estrid, the Masked. Considering that Oath of Teferi is already in Standard, it seems unlikely the The Chain Veil will be reprinted in War of the Spark. It wouldn't be a surprise to see it increase more in the future as Commander players start to build decks featuring the new War of the Spark planeswalkers.
Finally, in Modern the biggest winner of the week was Misty Rainforest, which shot up between 27% and 34% (depending on the printing) to somewhere between $70 and $80. The confirmation that Modern Horizons won't reprint any cards currently in the format means that there isn't an obvious place for fetchlands to be reprinted. While the fetches will certainly be reprinted eventually, there's a realistic chance it's not for a year or two, which means if you need fetchlands and don't want to wait, the best move is probably to pick them up soon: with more Modern Horizons hype, more increases could be on the way.
