Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week the biggest finance news is that Cavern of Souls is returning to Standard in Lost Caverns of Ixalan. While the land has been reprinted several times i,t's usually in Masters sets or in products that offer fringe supply increases like box toppers. Having the $45 card printed in a normal Standard set is big news for both eternal players and Commander players where the land is a true staple b,ut expensive. If you've been waiting to snag copies for Commander, Modern, or Legacy, this will be a great window. While the price will likely rebound because demand is so high, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cavern of Souls fall down near $20 in the short term, which is a huge discount compared to its $80-ish price tag just a year ago.
Speaking of reprints, we also found out that The One Ring (bundle) is being reprinted in two different versions with the holiday edition of Lord of the Rings. While there is still some confusion about exactly how the cards are being released, any new supply is a good thing for the $45 staple. This said, the cynic in me can't help but to think that once the holiday edition is sold, The One Ring (bundle) will end up being banned in Modern to make way for even newer staples in Modern Horizons 3 next year. But regardless, the more reprints the better. While the holiday edition reprinting likely won't crash the price, it should help bring it down a little bit.
Last but not least, in the realm of current cards, Faeries are still on the rise thanks to Wilds of Eldraine with everything from Bitterblossom to Mistbind Clique (Faerie, Faerie, Faerie Rad) to Spellstutter Sprite creeping up this week. At this point my advice is that if you haven't already started building Faeries, you might as well just skip it and wait until Lost Caverns of Ixalan, which will undoubtably have a bunch of cool new legends and themes to build around, but at a much lower price. Then if you really want to build around Faeries, wait six months or a year for the community to move on and then return to the theme once prices drop. Right now though, Faerie prices are so high it doesn't seem worth it.
