Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in the world of Magic finance, the biggest news was Dramatic Entrance being bought out thanks to an AspiringSpike deck that looked to use the Shadowmoor rare to put Atraxa, Grand Unifier into play in Modern. Exactly where the price will settle post-buyout isn't clear. As of this writing the cheapest copy on TCGPlayer is around $10, although near mint copies are mostly out of stock. This was after Dramatic Entrance started the week at less than $3. Whether or not Dramatic Entrance is real in Modern is another story. My guess is that it's more of a semi-competitive meme deck than something that will break the meta, which would suggest that prices will start to trend back down as supply hits the market. While the days of Dramatic Entrance being $2-$3 is likely done, sticking at $10 or $20 is equally unlikely.
Meanwhile in Pioneer, Cavalier of Dawn (planeswalker stamp) is on the rise, climbing from under $5 to over $10 in the past couple of weeks. The five-drop has developed into a staple in Fires of Invention (planeswalker stamp) decks, which is enough to cause the price increase since it's a one-print mythic. This said, it seems unlikely that Cavalier of Dawn (planeswalker stamp) will climb much higher. Cavalier of Thorns is from the same set, sees even more play thanks to Mono-Green Devotion and is just $12 after peaking at over $20 a few months ago.
Finally in the world of Commander, Mark of Sakiko gained 32% this week with the Betrayers of Kamigawa uncommon currently sitting at just under $6. This seems to mostly be tied to the printing of Yargle and Multani (showcase), with the idea being to stick the aura on the 18 power legend, get in an attack, and make a massive 18 mana. While this does sound pretty sweet, I'd still be cautious. Before the release of March of the Machine, Mark of Sakiko saw play in 0% of decks according to EDHRec. So once the hype for Yargle and Multani (showcase) dies down, the demand for the aura will likely fall with it. Plus, if it ever gets reprinted the price will likely crash, considering most of its current price is tied to it being an uncommon from a notoriously unpopular set printed 20 years ago.
