This week in Standard things are adjusting for War of the Spark. God-Eternal Kefnet, which has been showing up in decks ranging from Dimir Midrange to full-on control builds, leads the way, increasing 34% to about $20. Expansion // Explosion (up 32% to $4.60) and Tamiyo, Collector of Tales (up 27% to $3.25) also capitalized on sudden Standard relevance. Tamiyo, Collector of Tales has emerged as a staple in Simic Reclamation while Expansion // Explosion has found some success comboing with Ral, Storm Conduit. Considering that all of these cards survive rotation this fall, there's little reason to believe they can't maintain their price or even continue to increase as long as they remain a major part of the Standard format.
Meanwhile, in Modern a new take on Grishoalbrand combo that avoids the graveyard by tutoring up Griselbrand as early as turn one with Neoform is making waves. Allosaurus Rider, which gives a 7-cmc creature to sacrifice to Neoform on turn one, increased 695% to $16.50 while Autohcthon Wurm (up 1366% to $12) is used to exile to Nourishing Shoal to get more Griselbrand activations and Chancellor of the Tangle (up 733% to $6) provides the extra mana needed to cast Neoform on turn one. The deck was apparently posting some obscene results with the London mulligan rule — the question is whether the rule will actually go into effect permanently. It seems likely based on the generally favorable response from the community, but if Wizards decides to stick with the current rule, NeoBrand loses some of its luster and might just be another good deck rather than the best deck in the format. Expected prices to trend back down in coming weeks as the market adjusts to the buyout of the key cards in the deck.
Finally, prices are starting to trickle in for the Japanese War of the Spark anime planeswalkers. While certain standouts (like Liliana, Dreadhorde General) are quite expensive, as a general rule, the non-foil versions of the planeswalkers are selling for somewhere between two and three times the value of their English counterparts. Japanese boxes prices are starting to come down as well, from around $200 to the $180s. More supply is on the way in a few months when the Core Set 2020 promo packs are released. If you're looking for some of these cards to bling out your deck, the smart financial move is likely to wait. While the Japanese planeswalker will never be as cheap as the normal-art printing, prices should drop as supply continues to hit the market.
