Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
All the big finance news this week comes to us from Pro Tour Hour of Devastation, which wrapped up early this morning with Ramunap Red taking home the trophy with a win over GB Constrictor.
Most of the biggest winners come from the Ramunap Red deck, which put a massive six players into the top eight. Hazoret the Fervent jumped 229% and is now about $20. Earthshaker Khenra increased over 300% to $5, Bomat Courier doubled up to $1.30, and a bunch of playable commons and uncommons like Village Messenger and the namesake Ramunap Ruins moved from complete bulk to the $0.75 range. While the deck seems real and will likely be at or near the top of the format moving forward, it's still likely correct to sell into the Pro Tour spike. History shows us that these cards almost always fall back down in value, although it's unlikely they go back to their pre-Pro Tour price in the near future.
The other big movers this week come from the UW Gifts deck, which got a ton of hype heading into the Pro Tour, but ended up performing poorly on Magic's biggest stage. God-Pharaoh's Gift (up 288% to $3.25), Cataclysmic Gearhulk (up 116% to $2.08), and Champion of Wits (up 51% to $6.73) are likely to head back down once people digest the results of the Pro Tour. While the pieces are there for a God-Pharaoh's Gift deck to work in the future, right now Ramunap Red seems likely to keep it in check.
Finally, in Modern, Azusa, Lost but Seeking is the big gainer this week, as Todd Stevens' GW Company deck from last weekend's SCG event shows that the legend can work outside of a dedicated combo build and works really well with Ramunap Excavator and Ghost Quarter. While this price will likely stick for now, Azusa, Lost but Seeking has to be near the top of the list for likely reprints in future Masters edition sets. When this happens, she'll lose a ton of value since her current price is more about the scarcity of Kamigawa cards than it is about her level of play.
