Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week most of the biggest finance news is related to the recent release of Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. Over the past couple of weeks we saw a huge price spike in Werewolves as players build Tovolar, Dire Overlord. This week it was Zombies' turn. The biggest gainer was Plague Belcher which jumped 279% to $8, but Relentless Dead, Cryptbreaker, Undead Warchief, Gravecrawler, Lord of the Undead and honorary Zombie The Scarab God all saw big price increases this week as players build and upgrade their Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver (extended) Commander decks. While it's probably too late to get Zombies on the cheap, it might be time to start picking up Vampires as the same process is likely to repeat itself with the upcoming Vampire-focused Innistrad: Crimson Vow set releasing in just over a month.
Meanwhile in Standard, The Meathook Massacre nearly double this week, increasing 86% to $38, coming in just below Wrenn and Seven (which show up 32% itself to $40) as the second most expensive card in Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. While the two cards are very different as far as gameplay is concern, the best comparison for The Meathook Massacre might be The Great Henge (planeswalker stamp) as both cards were Standard staples that also have heavy demand from Commander. We saw The Great Henge (planeswalker stamp) peak at near $60 and is still close to $50 even though it has rotated from Standard. It wouldn't be a surprise to see The Meathook Massacre remain very expensive until it's reprinted. While it could come down a bit as Innistrad: Midnight Hunt is opened, if you need a copy (or four), expect to pay a premium.
Finally, fetchlands maybe have reached their floor. Pretty much all of the enemy fetchlands ticked up a few% this week, which makes sense. We're now a few months past Modern Horizons 2 and the Magic world has moved on to new Standard and Innistrad: Midnight Hunt. If you've been waiting to get your copies, now is probably the time. Prices will likely continue to slowly increase over the next months and years until they are eventually reprinted again. It's far from impossible that the best of the bunch (like Scalding Tarn) head back towards $100 eventually. Remember, reprint sets like Modern Horizons 2 essentially put reprinted staples on sale, but sales end eventually, and signs point to the Modern Horizons 2 fetchland sale nearing its end.
