Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in the world of Magic finance, the biggest gainer was Outlaws of Thunder Junction rare Slickshot Show-Off (extended) which shot up 113% to just under $18. Apart with getting a lot of Standard hype, the two-drop might revitalize prowess decks all the way back to Modern as a hasty, flying Kiln Fiend. While the card seems very strong, it also seems very unlikely to stick at its current price. Currently there is only one non-land rare in Standard worth more, and that card is Commander staple Roaming Throne (borderless). Modern staple Standard rares tend to settle in the $10 to $12 price range, which is what I would expect for Slickshot Show-Off (extended) assuming it actually is good in Modern. If you need some copies, I'd wait a few weeks for the set to be opened and the price to stabilize. If you happen to crack a few, I'd unload them now for max value.
Not to be outdone, Satoru, the Infiltrator increased 35% this week up to $7.20. The Ninja has been called the new Up the Beanstalk for Modern, and while it's too early to know if it will live up to the hype, it is showing up in a lot of early Outlaws of Thunder Junction Modern brews. The same advice applies here: Standard legal rares that see heavy Modern play typically end up around $10 or $12, which suggests Satoru, the Infiltrator may have a little room to grow, but is likely already close to its peak price.
Finally in Commander, the Shadowmoor common Cerulean Wisps shot up to $7 this week (with foil copies pushing $70) thanks to a new combo with Stella Lee, Wild Card (borderless). You can cast Cerulean Wisps, use Stella Lee, Wild Card (borderless) to copy it to untap Stella Lee and keep repeating this process until you draw your entire deck! While it's probably worth spending the $7 if you are trying to build a Stella Lee, Wild Card (borderless) deck in Commander, keep in mind that the current price of Cerulean Wisps is largely driven by scarcity. The card is nearly two decades old and has never been reprinted. Once it gets a reprint it will likely fall back down towards bulk.
