Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week all of the big finance new comes from Modern where a handful of cards are on the rise. Both Living End and As Foretold are still on the rise thanks to the Mono-Blue Living End deck which is still putting up results. Meanwhile, Celestial Colonnade jumped 16% to just under $60 as a rare and Shattering Spree increased 25%, making it a $16 uncommon. Both of these cards should be at or near the top of the list for a future Masters set reprinting, which could happen as soon as 25th Masters in March. With so many supplemental products these days, it's even more important to sell into these type of spikes, especially if you aren't using the cards. You can simply buy back in after the inevitable Masters set reprinting.
A lot of cards on the Reserved List are still increasing, with Library of Alexandria being one of the biggest movers this week shooting up more than 62% to over $1,200 a copy, while Alpha Time Vault more than doubled to $2,250. There's not much more to say about the Reserved List at this point; just assume that you probably won't be able to play with the cards on it (outside of Magic Online) and move on.
Finally, with Pauper coming to paper starting at Grand Prix events starting next weekend, we are seeing a bit of movement in the paper world. Oubliette—basically the black Oblivion Ring—jumped 10% on the week to nearly $25 while Ash Barrens increased 33% to nearly $4. While many Pauper cards are relatively "spike proof" thanks to their high supply, if Pauper really takes off and becomes hugely popular in paper, some rarer staples could creep up. If you're planning on playing paper Pauper events it wouldn't hurt to pick up your staples soon, just in case.
