Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week, the biggest financial news stems from Hour of Devastation previews, especially Solemnity which caused a couple of old and forgotten cards to spike. The two biggest beneficiaries of the "no counters" enchantment were Decree of Silence which went from a bulk rare to over $6, and Glacial Chasm which shot up from $1 to over $7. While people will certainly play these cards casually and in Commander, whether or not they actually show up in tournament decks remains to be seen. Probably the smartest thing to do is dig through your cards and see if you have any copies sitting around—they are basically free money at this point.
Speaking of Commander, Mirror Gallery is the latest Kamigawa block rare to spike, jumping 45% to just over $10. This seems to be based on Ixalan and the possibility of legendary planeswalkers. While there's a lot of risk here since we don't know for sure if there are legendary planeswalkers, and even if there are we don't really know what that means, if the end result is all planeswalkers being errata'd to be Legendary, Mirror Gallery will likely go up even more because it will be the foundation of a really fun Superfriends deck for kitchen tables.
Finally, for Magic Online, make sure to double check your collection for Commander 2016 cards (which are from the Legendary Cube Prize Packs on Magic Online). The combination of low supply and new demand from 1v1 Commander Leagues has combined to cause some crazy prices, with Mystic Confluence leading the way at just under 70 tix and a bunch of other cards like Fiery Confluence, Daretti, Scrap Savant, and Mizzix's Mastery (among others) currently between 10 and 22 tix. If you're not using these cards, selling them is an easy way to pay for a draft or two, or give you a good start towards building a tier Standard deck. While these prices are probably safe for the moment, it's likely these cards will show up in Treasure Chests in the not too distant future increasing supply and bringing prices down.
