Throne of Eldraine Previews |
|
Throne of Eldraine previews are here! This week we got the return of Garruk and all of the main mechanics from the set: Adventures, Adamant, and Food tokens! New with Eldraine are Brawl decks, and we got all of those cards and decklists as well. Finally, there was an awesome cinematic trailer, so be sure to check that out on the Wizards YouTube. Check out mtgpreviews.com for all the cards and complete decklists, and check out the important highlights of the set directly from SaffronOlive:

This week marked the unofficial start of Throne of Eldraine spoiler season (official spoiler season starts tomorrow, make sure to follow the site and YouTube over the next few weeks for daily coverage) and along with it the first Throne of Eldraine-induced price movement. Knight Exemplar increased 43% to $7.83 on the revelation that Knights are one of the most supported tribes on Eldraine, combined with the printing of Syr Gwyn, Hero of Ashvale giving the Knight tribe a powerful new Commander. Meanwhile, Blood Clock jumped a massive 452% to $6.27, presumably as a way to reuse the spell half of creatures with the adventure mechanic every turn by bouncing them back to your hand. Expect more spikes over the new couple weeks with Faeries, Knights, and equipment being at the top of the watch list based on the mechanics, tribes, and themes of Throne of Eldraine.
We also got the full decklists for the Throne of Eldraine Brawl decks this week and they contain some cards that will potentially be powerful outside of the fledgling Brawl format (primarily in Commander, but possibly in Standard as well). Thanks to the weird distribution of these cards (they only come in the Brawl precons and the special Collector's Boosters which will likely sell for over $20 each), any Brawl cards that see play in other formats have a chance to be quite expensive. This said, current presale prices are bordering on the absurd, with Arcane Signet being $30 on TCGplayer, Knights' Charge $20, and Mace of the Valiant $16. Considering the full precon decks should sell for somewhere in the $40 range, there's no way that these cards can maintain anywhere near these prices over the next few months while the set is opened. If you want some of the chase Brawl cards, your best bet is to either buy the precons or wait for prices to drop in a few weeks.
Finally, a bit of Magic Online news. Redemption for War of the Spark reaches its cutoff next week on September 16th, which means players will no longer be able to trade a digital set in for a physical set. Redemption ending has a huge impact on prices. A good example of this is Dominaria, with a complete set being around $130 while redemption was available, but quickly dropping below $50 once redemption ended (it's just $26 today). War of the Spark should follow suit and lose a huge chunk of its value over the next few months. I'd look to sell any War of the Spark cards you don't need now while prices are high as people are scrambling to finish sets to redeem before the window closes.
