Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in the world of Magic finance, some of the biggest winners come to us from last weekend's Pro Tour Murders at Karlov Manor. The breakout deck of the event (and eventually the winning deck) was Rakdos Vampires and the two key cards in the deck - Vein Ripper (showcase Dossier) and Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord - both saw massive price increases with Vein Ripper (showcase Dossier) jumping 75% to $27 and Sorin doubling up to $47. While the Vampire deck seems powerful, from a finance perspective, I'd be looking to sell my copies now into the hype. This is likely the peak for both cards. Remember last winter when Indomitable Creativity came out of nowhere to win a Pro Tour? It too spiked up to around $40, but today it's back down to under $10.
Meanwhile in Commander, the focus is on energy. Energy not only got a Fallout precon, but was also confirmed to be returning in Modern Horizons 3 this summer. Last week we discussed how Aetherworks Marvel doubled up in price to $10. This week Gonti's Aether Heart joined the party, doubling up to over $11. Like usual, the lesson here is to get your cards early. For example, we know Assassins are a theme for Assassin's Creed and a spicy new commander has already been previewed. If you are interesting in building the deck, I'd pick up older Assassins now since if you wait until the set releases, everyone will be building Assassins and prices are likely to rise.
Finally, Thrumming Stone is back on the rise thanks to the meme popularity of Slime Against Humanity. A couple of years ago the artifact peaked at over $70 before being reprinted in Double Masters 2022 and falling all the way down to $2. But over the past few weeks it has started to climb with the Coldsnap printing jumping to $18 and the Double Masters 2022 version reaching $8. If you want a copy, it's worth pointing out that you can actually pick up the foil Double Masters 2022 printing for the same price as the non-foil, which could make it a cheap way to bling out your deck. Considering the popularity of "you can play any number" cards like Slime Against Humanity, it's a pretty safe bet that Wizards will keep printing them and Thrumming Stone will keep slowly increasing in price until it's eventually reprinted again.
